The 5.9L Daily Driver Short Block was built for those who want a fun-spirited daily driver that is still capable of consumer-level towing. Featuring several excellent upgrades over the Model C, including head studs, valve seats, torque plate honing, a fully balanced engine, oil pans, and welded crank gear, the Choate Engineering 5.9L Daily Driver Short Block represents how the 5.9L was always meant to be.

Built to Maximize Durability and Reliability

Choate Engineering engineers this heavy-duty Short Block engine to offer a significant leap in reliability and durability over the OE 5.9L. Featuring CNC blueprint machining, this engine exhibits incredibly precise engineering. Choate Engineering utilizes CNC blueprinting to line hone the crankshaft, aligning it precisely with the engine block and ensuring frictionless operation. They bore the block back to the crankshaft centerline and hone it to an RA13 finish to further reduce friction. The cylinder block is surfaced to a finish of RA30 or lower, meeting or exceeding factory specifications for flatness and smoothness on the block-to-head sealing surface. Additionally, Choate includes a new rear main seal, new bed seals, a new rear cover gasket, a pickup tube gasket, and a rear cover. Choate's 5.9L Daily Driver Short Block is fully balanced and ready to power your daily adventures.

Furthermore, Choate Engineering addresses common issues with the OE 5.9L to ensure they do not occur with their 5.9L Daily Driver Short Block. In the OE 5.9L, valve seats may fallout, contacting the piston and causing catastrophic failure. To remedy this, Choate machines oversize valve seats with a creased press-fit area. Another prevalent issue is the blowout of stamped gallery plugs in the heads, leading to a mixture of oil and coolant and destroying bearings. Choate addresses this by threading the head and using threaded plugs in their 5.9L to prevent such occurrences. Additionally, freeze plugs in the OE block may blow out, potentially leaving the engine stranded on the roadside or, at worst, with severe overheating requiring remanufacturing. To mitigate this, Choate includes billet freeze plugs that are blowout-proof. It's evident that the 5.9L Daily Driver Short Block by Choate Engineering represents a significant advancement over the already impressive OE 5.9L.
