Dependable Daily Driver
The 5.9L Cummins engine is highly respected for its role in powering some of the toughest and most reliable trucks. Choate Engineering's 5.9L Daily Driver Long Block not only continues this legacy but also improves upon it. Designed for those seeking a spirited daily driver that can still handle consumer-level towing, the 5.9L Daily Driver Long Block boasts several impressive upgrades over the Model C. These include head studs, valve seats, torque plate honing, a fully balanced engine, oil pans, and welded crank gear. With these enhancements, the Choate Engineering 5.9L Daily Driver Long Block embodies what the 5.9L engine was always meant to be.
Built to Maximize Durability and Reliability
Choate Engineering meticulously designs this heavy-duty Long Block engine to provide a significant improvement in reliability and durability compared to the OE 5.9L. Utilizing CNC blueprint machining, this engine showcases remarkable precision engineering. Choate Engineering employs CNC blueprinting to precisely align the crankshaft with the engine block, ensuring smooth and frictionless operation. They bore the block back to the crankshaft centerline and hone it to an RA13 finish to further minimize friction. The cylinder block is meticulously surfaced to an RA30 finish or lower, exceeding factory specifications for flatness and smoothness on the block-to-head sealing surface. Additionally, Choate Engineering includes a new rear main seal, new bed seals, a new rear cover gasket, a pickup tube gasket, and a rear cover. Choate's 5.9L Daily Driver Long Block is meticulously balanced and prepared to power your daily adventures with reliability and performance.
Furthermore, Choate Engineering addresses common issues with the OE 5.9L to ensure they do not occur with their 5.9L Daily Driver Long Block. In the OE 5.9L, valve seats may fallout, contacting the piston and causing catastrophic failure. To remedy this, Choate machines oversize valve seats with a creased press-fit area. Another prevalent issue is the blowout of stamped gallery plugs in the heads, leading to a mixture of oil and coolant and destroying bearings. Choate addresses this by threading the head and using threaded plugs in their 5.9L to prevent such occurrences. Additionally, freeze plugs in the OE block may blow out, potentially leaving the engine stranded on the roadside or, at worst, with severe overheating requiring remanufacturing. To mitigate this, Choate includes billet freeze plugs that are blowout-proof. It's evident that the 5.9L Daily Driver Long Block by Choate Engineering is a significant advancement over the already impressive OE 5.9L.
